Many of us at K-Bach remember our first concerts fondly, and we are always eager to hear the insights of a new concert goer. We recently caught up with K-Bach listener David Soval, about his first time concert experience with The Phoenix Symphony.
Name: David Soval
Age: 35
Occupation: Nurse
Concert: Opening Night with Tito Muñoz and The Phoenix Symphony
1) What did you think of Symphony Hall? The reception area of the Hall was bigger than I expected. I've been to the Fox theatre in St. Louis and the Phoenix Symphony Hall seemed bigger and more artfully decorated.
2) What was your initial impression of the music? The music was just what I was expecting. I thought it sounded crisp, not too loud but not too soft, and obviously right on key.
3) Did you like hearing music like Carmina Burana that had choirs and soloists? I did like having the choirs, soloist, and the Phoenix Boy's Choir. I think the performance without them wouldn't have been nearly as good. It gave the performance some excitement and personality.
4) Any particular favorite pieces of music? Obviously the beginning and the end of Carmina Burana (that part that probably everybody would recognize) was my favorite. It had the most tempo and excitement. I also just like when the percussion family of instruments are involved.
5) Do you think you would want to go to another performance by the Phoenix Symphony? I definitely want to go to some other Phoenix Symphony performances. I was reading in the program about other upcoming concerts at Symphony Hall and I would especially want to go see one of the holiday concerts around Christmas time. I also was intrigued by the tribute to Louis Armstrong concert that I believe is happening later this year.
As you consider ways to spend time with your loved ones this season, we hope you’ll keep the K-Bach Arts Calendar at your fingertips. The K-BACH Calendar is your go-to Guide for holiday cheer, and chock full of local performances of your favorites: Catch the Palm Theater’s “Miracle on 34th St”, Southwest Shakespeare Company’s” A Christmas Carol”, or Childsplay’s hit, “Junie B Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells”. If instrumental music is more your style, you don’t want to miss Kimberly Marshall and the ASU Organ Studio in the exquisite ASU Organ Hall for the 12th Annual Organ Christmas Concert. And for many, the season is not complete without a rousing set of carols, and this December, many local choirs, including the Sonoran Desert Chorale and the Orpheus Male Chorus, will end their programs with a traditional Audience Carol Sing-A-Long.
